Считается, что в случае с новорожденными крещение происходит по вере родителей и крестных восприемников. Именно последние воспринимают благодать, подаваемую ребенку, а впоследствии помогают ему самому принять дар — веру и решимость жить по законам божьим.
Крестные отец и мать дают обеты, участвуют совместно с несмышленым младенцем в таинстве и на всю жизнь становятся для него наставниками и воспитателями, а не просто принимают ребенка из купели. Это ответственность перед Богом и людьми за воспитание крестника.
Ранее крещение дети получали не так, как в наше время. Проходящие подготовку к таинству на протяжении нескольких месяцев, а зачастую и лет, изучали веру, слушали поучения, молились, подвергались посту, посещали церковь – вели жизнь христианина, только не причащались.

Принятие их в Церковь допускалось только после тщательного испытания на решимость начать жизнь во Христе, зачатки которой они уже получили. С течением времени крещение стали совершать с пеленок. Одним из главных действий таинства является троекратное погружение в воду – это символическая параллель с Христом, воскрешению которого предшествовало трехдневное пребывание в гробу. Этот путь повторяет тот, кого крестят, при этом происходит обновление его естества до глубинных основ.
Когда можно крестить ребенка?
В настоящее время особо строгих требований к тому, когда крестить ребенка, нет. Но принимая во внимание важность вопроса с духовной точки зрения, откладывать на длительное время проведение таинства не следует. По устоявшейся практике младенцев крестят на первом году жизни. Выбор дня, в какой лучше крестить малыша, в принципе, зависит только от личных предпочтений родителей.
Таинство может быть совершено в пост, будни и праздники. Однако каждому храму свойственен свой уклад, поэтому перед окончательным определением даты и времени крещения необходима консультация со священнослужителем.
Одним из факторов, имеющих влияние на выбор того, в каком возрасте лучше крестить ребенка, выступает невозможность присутствия матери до 40-го дня от родов. До этого времени роженице запрещено входить в храм.
В соответствии с церковными правилами, на проведение таинства крещения деток до семи лет требуется только согласие родителей как ответственных за чадо перед Богом. Несомненно, крестить малыша нужно в том храме, прихожанами которого вы являетесь. Проведение таинства на дому тоже возможно, но только в случае каких-либо особых обстоятельств, например, при болезни.

Именно восприемники дают обещание воспитать ребенка в соответствии с верой и духовностью. А это выступает свидетельством силы их любви к Богу и ближним, способности передать и объяснить крестнику то, во что и в кого они верят, быть воспитателем и наставником. Свой выбор родители часто останавливают как на близких, так и на дальних родственниках, хороших друзьях. Не могут быть выбраны в качестве восприемников люди, находящиеся в монашестве, и сами родители.
Для крещения ребенка необходимы такие вещи:
- крестильная белая рубаха или пеленка;
- нательный крестик;
- полотенце;
- свечи.
Необходимая атрибутика продается непосредственно в храме. Традиционно крестик и икону небесного покровителя малышу дарят крестные. Родителям желательно подготовиться: исповедаться и причаститься. Отмечая крестины, можно накрыть стол, пригласить близких, но следует помнить, что нет места злоупотреблениям, а знаменовать этот день должны любовь и духовная радость.
